App connections allow actions that can both send and receive data.
When selecting the Send Parameters for Insert and Update actions, the fields and objects shown in the parameters dialog belong to the app that was selected in the Details section of the app connection itself. If you do not see the fields and objects you were expecting to see in the parameters dialog, check the app connection to verify the correct app was selected. Also, when selecting the target app objects, it is not possible to pass data into tables, lists or drop-down objects. |
Insert Action
The Insert action allows an app connection to create a new instance of a different app and pass data into that new instance.
New instances created by an Insert action are unable to trigger any notifications or run any workflow rules that might be associated with that app, but the data in the app will be available for reporting. |
When setting up the Connect behavior command in an app that will use the Insert action, you must again specify which fields will be passed into the new app instance. Specify these target fields in the Source column under Send Parameters on the Properties panel.
Update Action
The Update action on an app connection allows an app to update data in an existing instance of a different app.
When setting up the Connect behavior command in an app that will use the Update action, specify which field contains the data that identifies the target instance (e.g. App Instance ID) and which fields will pass data to the other app instance.
