The State property controls the appearance of the field or object on your app. Fields and objects can be hidden (for example, helper fields), ready-only, disabled and more. For a complete listing of available statuses and their uses, see Explanation of State Priority and Understanding the Default State.
It is important to note that controlling the state from the Properties panel in Layout view means that the object will always be shown in that selected state, regardless of user, role or stage the app is in during its life cycle. For information on using states as a means to limit user access based on the workflow stage of the app, see Limiting User Access to App Fields.
